Name SPCL-AUXCOMM Auxiliary Communications Workshop : ( SPCL-AUXCOMM)
Description The AUXCOMM workshop is designed for the amateur radio/auxiliary communicator who provides communications backup support for planned or unplanned incidents at a State, Tribal, regional, or local level. This offering is designed for amateur radio operators/organizations who work with public safety and cross-disciplinary emergency response professionals and coordination/support personnel with an amateur radio background. Florida's AUXCOMM plan and support for this course will be under the auspices of the Statewide Interoperability Coordinator (SWIC). AUXCOMM programs are used by event planners, public safety officials and emergency managers at all levels of government. Instructors are qualified by DHS/ECD, and have extensive experience both in incident response and as COMLs. (Served agency affiliation and FCC license is required)
PreRequisite IS-100, 200, 700 and 800 (latest versions) An FCC Amateur radio License A desire to work with COML’s and served agencies in a NIMS/ICS environment.
Target Audience This course focuses on auxiliary communications interoperability, the relationship between the COML and the volunteer, training and planning, and emergency communications deployment
Possible assignments may include FDEM State EOC or to disaster areas
Additional Information Class will start at 0800 daily and go until 1700 with an hour for lunch. Please plan to bring a laptop/tablet as course information will be emailed to you. Please plan to bring a jacket/sweater as EOC runs colder. Students are encouraged to implement any PPE they deem appropriate for a classroom environment. If you are sick - please stay at home. FILL PRIORITY WILL BE: Regions 1,2,3 then others. 30 days out, class list will be finalized. Radios are not needed. Preferred attire is business casual or professional. Please no shorts, t-shirts, flip flops, etc.
