Description
|
This course provides those personnel first-on-the-scene with basic information needed to recognize, evaluate, and control an incident involving the release or potential release of hazardous materials. It is intended for personnel of who may come across a chemical emergency during the course of their normal duties.
The focus of the course is on recognizing and evaluating a hazardous materials incident, organizing the team, protecting personnel, identifying and using resources, implementing basic control measures, decision-making and protecting the public. Firefighting techniques are not part of the course. By gaining an overview, gathering, and interpreting information, the participants will learn how to make decisions based on a scale of risk versus gain. Participants will work on fixed facility and transportation scenarios for recognizing and evaluating safety concerns during the management of a release or potential release of hazardous materials.

*Required Prerequisite: Awareness/Refresher (8hrs of classroom instruction and small group learning) - Monday, January 29th, 2018
*Operations (Awareness, pre-requisite and 16 hours of classroom instructions and hands-on activities)
The Awareness level course involves eight hours of classroom instruction, case studies, and interactive tabletop scenarios emphasizing the concept of being aware of the materials that are handled, transported, or loaded and unloaded, through mechanisms such as labels and markings, Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG), or information stations In addition, this course stresses to the participants the idea of “observe and report,” with an emphasis on keeping themselves and others a safe distance from the hazardous material
The Operations level course is designed to educate the trainees in the defensive aspects of handling hazardous materials spills and incidents through initial HAZMAT Awareness training (8 hr ) and 16 hours of classroom instruction and hands-on activities Defensive efforts include activities such as preventing the spread of the spilled materials through actions such as damming and diverting the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including the donning (putting on) and doffing (taking off) of PPE

Class will start at 8:00AM each day. Please arrive early to find parking and go through security.
Please bring material/equipment to take notes;
Business Casual attire; sweater/jacket would be recommended in case the classroom turns cold; you may bring snacks or liquids in a sealed container (water, coffee, or tea, etc.)
PARKING: Landmark: Pier 1 Imports, it is free public parking, no access card or code required.
