HM 00001 Hazardous Materials Awareness
The Hazardous Materials Safety and Security Awareness Training was designed to provide workers employed in maritime-related industries with the skills required by OHSA 29 CFR 1910.120. This course engages students through the facilitation of various classroom activities and exercises to reinforce the didactic educational material. The Awareness class curriculum includes the following core content areas: introduction to hazardous materials/WMDs, use of the Emergency Response Guide (ERG), laws and regulations, consensus standards, standard of care, gathering and analyzing information, hazardous materials marking and color system, initiating protective actions, and criminal and terrorist events. Each trainee is supplied with a copy of the 2008 U.S. Department of Transportation ERG as a professional resource. In addition, trainees are also provided with a hard copy and/or electronic copy of the student training Awareness manual.

Our Target student/trainee population includes: • Port and dock workers • Port Authority/Law enforcement • Maritime and offshore workers • Oil industry professionals • Cruise ship personnel (shipboard and dockside) • Public and private sectors • Firefighters • Emergency medical technicians • HazMat technicians and first responders • Emergency management personnel - marine incidents
Course Objective
This course will introduce the student to the laws, standards and regulations that apply to hazardous materials incidents and response and provide the student with information about who to notify and when upon becoming aware of an incident involving hazardous materials
The goal of this course is to recognize a hazardous materials incident, notify appropriate authorities, and maintain the safety of personnel
