Target Audience
|
The Hazardous Materials Command & Safety Leadership Academy is a 40-hour, performance-based training program designed to strengthen leadership, decision-making, and operational effectiveness in hazardous materials incidents
It consists of three integrated courses—HazMat Incident Commander, HazMat Safety Officer, and HazMat Branch Chief/Group Supervisor—delivered through a scenario-driven methodology that emphasizes risk-based response, legal defensibility, and command-level leadership
The curriculum aligns with and exceeds key national standards, including OSHA 29 CFR 1910
120 (HAZWOPER), NFPA 470, and FEMA NIMS/ICS, ensuring participants are trained in incident command systems, PPE, monitoring, decontamination, medical surveillance, and multi-agency coordination
Through realistic scenarios such as transportation accidents, industrial chemical releases, and emerging hazards, participants develop and demonstrate proficiency in incident action planning, safety analysis, ICS documentation, and command-level decision-making
The program requires measurable performance outputs, including completed ICS forms, safety plans, and operational briefings, ensuring competency beyond theoretical knowledge
As a result, graduates are equipped to manage complex hazmat incidents safely and effectively within a compliant ICS framework while meeting or exceeding national standards of care
