Description
|
This course provides participants with an overview of general security features employed by the US government to establish the validity of government documents, as well as known methods used to alter to counterfeit the types of documents commonly presented to law enforcement officers. Several government documents are discussed, including identity cards, driver's licenses, and social security cards.

This awareness level course focuses on the recognition, prevention and deterrence of terrorist activity and other crimes that threaten the safety of life and property for law enforcement and other public safety professionals (such as investigators, parole or probation officers, public health investigators EMS, fire, and others. Participants will engage in a collaborative learning exercise in which they will take concepts and skills learned throughout the course and apply them to an evolving incident of terrorist activity. Information is essential to successfully deterring, preventing, and responding to terrorist acts. Gathering, sharing, investigating and analyzing information leads to the development of intelligence. Intelligence can prevent and deter terrorist activity, but it must reach law enforcement at all levels of government as well as safety professionals in public and private sectors.
Objectives:
- Explain the importance of recognizing, preventing, and deterring terrorist activity.
- Use a baseline knowledge of concepts and terminology associated with terrorist attacks to be better prepared to identify signs of suspicious behavior related to terrorism.
- Describe strategies, activities, and tactics of terrorist attack planning and implementation in order to recognize indicators of terrorism.
- Describe how to disrupt and respond to terrorist attacks through familiarity with the terrorist attack cycle
- Evaluate whether materials and makeshift labs are associated with the prevention and deterrence of terrorism.
- Judge the authenticity of identification documents (IDs)
- Act appropriately on information that can assist with the prevention and deterrence of terrorism
- Apply prevention and deterrence concepts to an evolving incident of terrorist activity.
- Incorporate what has been learned in this course into their job duties as it relates to detecting and deterring terrorist and extremist attacks
