Description
|
This course provides participants with an understanding of and ability to navigate through the difficult aspects of dealing with campus emergencies involving natural or manmade events, including acts of violence. The course consists of small, problem-based, integrated group activities that require a coordinated, integrated approach to solve. Through tabletop scenarios, course participants will observe a developing incident
and respond in a manner consistent with currently established campus and jurisdictional emergency operations procedures.

This course aims to train personnel from PK-12 schools and institutions of higher education (IHEs), first responders, elected officials, and community stakeholders to respond to campus emergencies effectively and cooperatively Participants will examine successful, nationally accepted emergency management principles that can be used to address the wide range of threats and hazards that educational entities face During the course, participants will discuss emergency planning considerations, the importance of an integrated response to campus emergencies, and communications and recovery issues that need to be addressed The course consists of practical, problem-based, integrated group activities that require a coordinated, integrated approach As they engage in tabletop scenarios, course participants will observe a developing incident and respond in a manner consistent with currently established campus (PK-12 and IHE) and jurisdictional emergency operations procedures This course is supported by a wide variety of interactive discussions and activities, including two tabletop simulated campus emergency activities spanning a total of 3 5 hours These simulations encourage participants to examine the state of their institutions¿ emergency preparedness and to establish relationships that support future response
