Description The methodologies and techniques used to deliver timely and accurate information in a complex, dynamic information environment is challenging to any community or organization hosting a mass gathering. The Sport and Special Event Public Information and Emergency Notification course brings planners, operators, communication professionals, government, public safety, and marketing professionals together in an effort to prepare and/or enhance venue and event communication programs. The course prescribes best practices to common communication pitfalls and provides flexible and scalable solutions to a wide-range of scenarios. Additional Information Students must register at teex.org/program/sports-and-special-events-management/ and bring a copy of their FEMA SID number to class. The Sport and Special Event Public Information and Emergency Notification course brings planners, operators, public information professionals, government, public safety, and marketing professionals together in an effort to prepare and/or enhance venue and event communication programs. The course prescribes best practices to common communication pitfalls and provides flexible and scalable solutions to a wide-range of scenarios. The training leverages a combination of exercises, discussions, and activities to optimize participant experience. This training is applicable across the United States regardless of the venue size, capacity, or type of event. Those who complete this course can use this training to develop or improve public information and emergency notification programs for any sport or special event venue. This course represents a cooperative effort between The University of Southern Mississippi’s National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (USM/NCS⁴) and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service’s National Emergency Response and Recovery Training Center (TEEX/NERRTC), a member of the Texas A&M University System.
