Name SERC 008 Hazardous Materials Medical Protocols / Toxidromes : ( SERC 008)
Description This session will focus on the more common exposures that take place. During the presentation, the speakers will review the types of exposures, signs and symptoms, and protocols. A hazardous materials trained paramedic will be equipped to identify and intervene with victims of chemical exposures related to accidental or intentional releases. In addition to the specific exposures discussed above, the speakers will also present the benefit of having trained paramedics along with the requirements and resources needed to maintain a program within a department or region.

Additional Information **Class is 8:30am-5pm daily** This course will present materials that are consistent with NFPA 473 including identification, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of victims who have been exposed to hazardous chemicals. The course will also address chemical and physical properties, medical surveillance and command responsibilities. The course will teach the appropriate response to chemical incidents involving victims exposed to hazardous chemicals and guide them in the application of emergency medical protocols. Course Objectives: At the completion of the course the students will: Understand Chemical and Physical properties as it relates to chemical exposure and patient physiological changes. Understand both the identification of the physiologic response of a chemical exposure and the physical response of the treatment. Identify recognized treatments for specific poisonings and will also review their own protocols developed for the treatment of exposures. Successfully complete all student challenges and work through patient scenarios to further reinforce the learning process. Review the requirements of medical surveillance as it related to HM team members and responders.
