Name COM-T All-Hazards Communications Technician : ( COM-T)
Description The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Emergency Communications (OEC) has completed the development of the All-Hazards Communications Technician (COMT) curriculum. This curriculum trains emergency responders on practices and procedures common to radio communication technicians during all-hazards emergency operations and will help communications technicians to work within the Incident Command System (ICS) organizational structure with standardized operational and technical procedures. The COMT class is targeted for all local, regional, state and federal cross disciplinary emergency response professionals and coordination/support personnel with a communications background. Individuals who are assigned responsibility for a Strategic Technology Reserve (radio cache, mobile communications vehicle, or other deployable communications assets) are encouraged to attend. This class is targeted to students who have technical aptitude, but not necessarily strong technical experience.
PreRequisite -100.b or IS-100 C. or IS-100.c or IS-100.Fwa or IS-100.Leb ICS-200, IS-700 ICS-800 ICS-300 (strongly recommended ,but not required)
Target Audience he All-Hazards Communications Technician (COMT) course trains responders on practices/procedures common to radio communication technicians all hazards incidents
This course will help communications technicians work within the ICS organizational structure, and prepare personnel for all hazards deployment in the State of Florida
This course is intended for response professionals and coordination/support personnel with communications backgrounds
This course is targeted to students who have technical aptitude, but not necessarily strong technical experience
Additional Information PREREQUISITES: A public safety communications background with exposure to field operations. Fundamental public safety communications technology awareness. Basic knowledge of local communications and communications systems; frequencies and spectrum; technologies; knowledge of state, regional, and local communications plans Completion of the following training courses: - ICS-100 - ICS-200 - IS-700 - IS-800 - ICS-300 (strongly recommended, but not required). A written recommendation from the student's supervisor attesting that the student possesses the knowledge listed above. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Course length is five days (40 hours) Please note: Maximum student count is 16 participants. Registration will be reviewed/approved by instructor cadre and DEM Staff to ensure participation from all regions (1-2 students per region). Students who are approved will be contacted prior to course with additional information.
