Description
This course is designed to train law enforcement and public safety officers to employ department-procured and issued personal radiation detectors (PRD) within the bounds of the jurisdiction/agency operational environment, including local instruments, procedures, and legal considerations. The course provides training and extensive hands-on practice with real radioactive material. PRD instruments used in the course are the instruments owned and issued by the responder organization. The responder organization will provide PRDs for student use in the course, preferably one PRD per student
PreRequisite
*Recommended Prerequisite AWR-140 *All participants are required to have a FEMA SID prior to enrolling in this training. If you do not remember what it is, can't find it, or need to create one, please "google" (FEMA SID number) or visit cdp.dhs.gov/femasid to register for a FEMA SID.
Target Audience
Personnel from specialty teams within Fire-Rescue, Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management & the Department of Health
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course trains participants to perform basic Preventive Radiological/ Nuclear Detection (PRND) operations as Primary Screeners employing a personal radiation detector (PRD)
Participants learn how the job of the primary screener is integrated into the nation’s Global Nuclear Detection Architecture’s (GNDA) objective to address the threat of terrorist attacks using radiological / nuclear material
Through scenario-based drills, participants are trained to detect, locate, and adjudicate potential threats involving people, vehicles, packages, and facilities
The course evaluates participants on knowledge, skills, and abilities in the Primary Screener role
This course entails the use of a variety of radioactive materials (ram) to instruct and familiarize course participants with operational uses of the radiation detection instruments
*Course Objectives • Identify the Preventive Radiological Nuclear Detection (PRND) Mission Structure
• Employ a PRD as a Primary Screener
• Perform the duties of a Primary Screener using the Alarm Response Guide (ARG), the PRD, and the totality of the circumstances to properly assess radiation alarms
Additional Information
*Class will start promptly at 8:30AM and ends around 5:00PM on. *Arrive early to go through security and find parking. *Bring something to take notes. *The room may turn cold so bring jacket/sweater. *Need to bring your Student Identification Number (SID#) with you to class.
