Additional Information
Class Time: 1300-1500 PM CST.. One of the objectives of the Laboratory Response Network (LRN) is to ensure effective response to both bioterrorism and chemical terrorism. After a chemical terrorism event, the Chemical Threat Preparedness Program at the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Public Health Laboratories (DOH, BPHL) will work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the medical community to obtain clinical blood and urine samples from potentially exposed individuals. Preparedness is the key to effective response. As part of that preparedness effort, the BPHL offers Chemical Terrorism Preparedness Training to community partners. The course consists of the two sessions described below. This session is directed to individuals who might actually collect clinical specimens after a chemical exposure event. The CDC have specific requirements regarding specimens; therefore, collectors must follow a specific protocol. Additionally, since the samples are evidentiary, Chain-of-Custody procedures must be implemented. This is both a lecture and hands-on training.
