PER-370: Hospital First Receivers: Detecting Radio PER-370: Hospital First Receivers: Detecting Radioactive Contamination
The PER-370, Hospital First Receivers: Detecting Radioactive Contamination course provides hospital first receivers/healthcare workers with essential knowledge and skills to assist them when responding to a radiological/nuclear Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD) incident in the safest manner possible for themselves and victims. The first hour of the course consists of 3 lessons: Contamination Management, Radiological Detection, and Decontamination. The remaining time is spent using radiation instruments to do hands-on drills to locate and identify radiation contaminants, differentiate between alpha, beta, and gamma radiation; perform non-ambulatory victim decontamination; perform surveys to locate contamination on objects and people.
Target Audience
Emergency Medical Services Health Care Public Health Recommended courses: AWR-140, or AWR-140-W, Introduction to Radiological/Nuclear WMD Operations or AWR 410 W, Hospital Radiological Emergency Operations: Hazards and Countermeasures, or equivalent training
Course Objective

3 Determine the best radiation detection instrument and probe for a given task

4 Differentiate between the various decontamination methods and determine when to choose treatment over decontamination

5 Detect and identify the presence of alpha, beta, and gamma radiation using the radiation using radiation detection instruments and methods provided in this course

6 Decontaminate and safely package contaminated non-ambulatory victims using the best practices introduced in this course

7 Perform radiological surveys to locate and identify radiological contaminants on person, place or thing
