Description
This course is a weapons of mass destruction (WMD) radiological/nuclear overview designed for first responders and other personnel who are likely to be the first to arrive on the scene of a radiological/nuclear incident. It focuses on the basics of radiation, possible health effects, hazard identification, and proper notification procedures. The course consists of classroom instruction. TARGET AUDIENCE / DISCIPLINE * Law Enforcement * Emergency Medical Services * Emergency Management Agency * Fire Service * Hazardous Material (HazMat) * Public Works * Governmental Administrative * Public Safety Communications * Health Care * Public Health COURSE OBJECTIVES: * To describe the radiological/nuclear threat of terrorism and its potential effects on the community * To describe the basic properties of radiation and its effects on responders in a radiological environment * To explain the health effects on the responders and victims in a radiological/nuclear
PreRequisite
NOTE: If you are planning to that the afternoon session AWR-140-1 (AWR-141) please inform Josh Green - POC, since you will not be allowed to register until you have completed this course he will reserve a seat for you. You will also NEED Documentation that states that you are an instructor for your agency you are representing.
Target Audience
*DESCRIPTION: AWR-140 provides First Responders and others in response or support mission roles with an introduction to radiological/nuclear Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD) operations
This course—which aligns with the Awareness level and Operations level competencies of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA®) 472, Standard for Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials / Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents—also provides fundamental knowledge in threat or incident recognition, protective measures, notifications, and incident area management
*TARGET AUDIENCE: Fire Service, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management Agency, Emergency Medical Services, Governmental Administrative, Hazardous Materials Personnel, Healthcare, Public Health, Public Safety Communications, Public Works and private sector and general public members approved by the National Training and Education Division (NTED) *This includes persons from non-governmental organizations such as Red Cross or Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) and businesses, industries, and services who may have a role in the response
