Generic event added to the course catalog to be used when scheduling Conferences, Divisional Trainings, Event, Exercise, Meeting, Seminar, or Workshop to effectively show this event on the calendar.
PreRequisite
*Class will start promptly at 8:30AM and end around 12:30PM. *Recommended AWR-140/AWR-140-W: Introduction to Radiological/Nuclear WMD Operations *All participants are required to have a FEMA SID prior to enrolling in this training. If you do not remember what it is, can't find it, or need to create one, please "google" (FEMA SID number) or visit cdp.dhs.gov/femasid to register for a FEMA SID.
Target Audience
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course trains emergency responders in the individual skills needed to use radiation detection equipment and dosimetry while operating in the response radiological/nuclear mission field
Responders will be trained to select the appropriate instrument for a specific mission and use the instrument in performance of that mission
Responders learn the basic operation of dosimeters, personal radiation detectors (PRDs), survey instruments, portal monitors, and radio-isotope identification devices (RIIDs)
Attendees are taught radiation detection activities using a variety of detection instruments
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own department’s instruments if possible
This course uses sealed radioactive sources to provide realism
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, participants will distinguish between various radiation detection and measuring devices
The participant will: • Identify basic radiation concepts
• Describe the characteristics of a dosimeter
• Describe the characteristic of a Personal PRD
• Describe the characteristics of a survey meter
• Describe the general characteristic and operation of a portal monitor
• Describe the characteristics of a RIID TARGET AUDIENCE/DISCIPLINE: Fire Service, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Governmental Administrative, Healthcare, Hazardous Materials, Public Health, Citizen/Community Volunteer, and other personnel who may be assigned radiological detection operations

*Class will start promptly at 8:30AM and end around 12:30PM. *Arrive early to go through security and parking. *Bring something to take notes. *The room may turn cold so bring jacket/sweater. *Need to bring your Student Identification Number (SID#) with you to class.
