Description
This awareness-level course enhances the participants’ abilities to build up an organization’s communication strategy for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. The course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills of: - Social media and its uses - The current tools, methods, and models to properly make use of social media for crisis communication Participants will take part in facilitator-led activities that challenge them to identify effective social media platforms for their organizations to utilize during crises situations. In these activities, participants apply their knowledge with the presented material to actual disaster preparedness, response, and recovery issues. Through the use of social media tools, participants will learn and master skills to disseminate information and monitor, track, measure, and analyze social media traffic. Participants will be able to use social media as a method to identify warning signs that a crisis is developing. The

Target Audience
This course focuses on the use of social media in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery
Social media has shown to help people communicate and collaborate about events as the events unfold
Social media can provide rapid and immediate real-time information about events that helps provide greater situational awareness leading to better decision making
Participants are provided with the knowledge and skills to integrate social media into their current communication plans
The course defines social media and its uses and identifies the tools, methods, and models to properly make use of social media in the context of disaster management and provides the information and hands-on experience necessary to help the participants’ social media disaster plans
Course Modules include: •Introduction to Social Media •Understanding the Use of Social Media and Disaster Management •Implementing Different Social Media Platforms for Disaster Management •Facebook Hands-On •Twitter Hands-On •Crowdsourcing & Data Mining •Government Administrative •Emergency Management •Fire Services •Law Enforcement •General Public •Citizen/Community Volunteer •Public Works •Private Sector / Corporate Security and Safety

Time:8:30am-5:00pm **Participants must bring a wi-fi enabled device(laptop Preferred)....Participants must register and take the pre test online....Participants must create a Twitter and a Facebook account prior to attending the course.... Participants must be able to post test messages on these accounts.**
